POSITION: CEO/President

REPORTS TO: Chamber Board


Position Summary:

The CEO provides executive leadership to the Chamber in the fulfillment of its mission statement; implements thee approved strategic plan and develops strategies toward a successful and financially stable future.  This position provides overall strategic directions, vision and management for the programs and personnel of the Yakima Chamber. The CEO demonstrates expertise in strategic planning, member sales and support, program management, economic development, public policy, nonprofit governance/operations, finance/accounting, public speak and fundraising.  The role has full responsibility for profit/loss, fiscal stability, and legal compliance. This is a dynamic leader with the ability to manage current programs, while developing new initiatives that are value added for existing and potential members. The CEO/President serves as the visible leader of the Chamber, as a communicator, facilitator, and interactive community planner.


Responsibilities:

  • Operate within and advance the policies and priorities as directed by the Board of Directors
  • Assure that priorities and initiatives support member needs and serve to advance the area’s economic base.
  • Maintain open communication with the Board, and work with the Board in the governance of the Chamber.
  • Promote and Support Member participation.
  • Ensure the Chamber is a financially viable organization.

Board Relations:

  • Provide visionary in strategic planning by participating proactively with the Board.
  • Provide periodic operational and strategic information to the Board, as well as analysis of projected impact of such information if implemented or acted upon.
  • Develops and communicated recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Prepares material for monthly board and executive committee meetings.

Membership Recruitment and Retention

  • Exhibits a strong customer service focus to ensure membership retention, growth, and development.
  • Sell, track, and retain Chamber Membership.
  • Regularly assesses the needs and interests of the membership and develops services according to those needs and interests.
  • Maintains positive relationships with through various means of advocacy.
  • Assists in past due collections and reconciling past due accounts.

Financial Management

  • Creates and presents to the Board annual operating and capital budget that reflect the programs and goals of the organization

Assures proper administration of the Chamber financial activities; maintains appropriate data, records a financial controls; communicates an coordinates, as appropriate with the Board regarding financial matters.
