College Degrees or Creative Abilities: What Credential Starts a Career Tomorrow?

Event Description Four of the most authoritative authors on post-secondary education will be featured speakers at “Higher Education in the 21st Century: Crucial Questions for America and the Northwest,” a series of forums at Heritage University which will address issues facing higher education. The public meetings are sponsored by the Center for a New Washington at Heritage University with support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

The final forum, titled “College Degrees or Creative Abilities: What Credential Starts a Career Tomorrow?” will take place Tuesday, May 16. The first keynote speaker will be Dr. Sean Gallagher, executive director of the Center for the Future of Higher Education & Talent Strategy and executive professor of educational policy at Northeastern University. Dr. Gallagher is also the author of 
The Future of University Credentials (Harvard, 2016). The second keynote speaker will be Matthew Hora from the University of Wisconsin and author of Beyond the Skills Gap: Preparing College Students for Life and Work (Harvard, 2016). Central Washington University President James Gaudino will serve as the final forum’s convener, which will be held in Smith Family Hall from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
